As the greatest part of Bukovina, the people of our commune took part to the most important events in our country's history.

The annexation of Bukovina to the Austro - Hungarian Empire leads to a great and long sufferance beginning with 1775. A period of struggle for the national identity surviving against the foreign domination begins.

The two World Wars brought about many human and material loses, the commune was the theatre of operations for many hard battles.

On 8th of November 1918 over 700 inhabitants of the commune took part at a meeting in order to subscribe to the union of Bukovina with Romania and on 8th of December same year a great national celebration took place for celebrating the event which determined (amongst others goals) the introduction of Romanian language as official language in administration, law and justice system, schools.

The curse of the 50 years of communism brought also about great sufferance to the commune. Properties were nationalized, many innocent hard working but wealthy people was imprisoned without trial or depurated in other areas in the country. The peasants were forced to give to the state parts of their agricultural productions while those who couldn't pay the taxes and obligations to the state were considered subversive, arrested and condemned. The nationalization of goods, properties, lands and estates wasn't totally possible here because the lands are impossible to be merged in order to obtain "the common property" so desired by the communists.
