The oldest records about the Fundu Moldovei population certify the existence of 93 families in 1774 up to 130 families in 1784. In 1900 the population was of 3240 inhabitants out of whom 837 were Germans and 208 Jews. The 1930 census recorded 4490 inhabitants. According to the 1990 census 4790 inhabitants lived in Fundu Moldovei commune.

Over the centuries the natives lived together with German colonists who came here after Bukovina was invaded by the empire. Today only 4 persons of German origins are recorded. population of Jewish origins settled here at the beginning of the XIXth century. The records certify also the presence of Ukrainian population and few gipsy families from time to time.

Anthropology
The anthropological types identified in the area after researches made indicate the presence of the northern, Mediterranean, highlanders and east - european types but mainly the "inter-breeding" of these.
