| The
great majority of the commune's inhabitants were and still are Christian
- orthodox, their religious life being strongly linked to the history of
Bukovina.
It seems that in the
XVIth century a little orthodox church already existed in the Fundu Moldovei
village. Its foundation can be still seen in the village's cemetery. In
1800 the believers built the marvellous "Saint Nicholas" orthodox
wooden church - today a known monument in Fundu Moldovei de Sus (Colacu).
Between 1938 - 1940 the foundation of a new church is set, near the old
wooden one, construction which was finished and hallowed only in 1964. |
